Gluten Ataxia is one of the most under-recognised neurological conditions today. Despite its serious impact on balance, coordination, cognition, speech and overall quality of life, it is frequently misunderstood, missed, or misdiagnosed. At TG6, we are working to change that.
Many people with Gluten Ataxia struggle for years without answers. Symptoms vary widely, develop slowly or suddenly, and are often mistaken for unrelated conditions. Crucially, Gluten Ataxia can only be identified through a specific blood test that checks for TG6 antibodies - a test that many GPs and even neurologists are unaware of. Without recognition and proper diagnosis, individuals continue to experience preventable neurological damage.
Our mission is simple: To raise awareness of Gluten Ataxia across both the general public and the medical community, ensuring earlier recognition, faster diagnosis, and better long-term outcomes.
We provide clear, accessible education on:
• What Gluten Ataxia is and how it affects the brain and nervous system
• The wide range of symptoms - from balance issues to cognitive difficulties
• The role of TG6 antibodies in diagnosis
• The importance of early testing and referral
• How a strict gluten-free diet can slow or stop further neurological damage
We support individuals, families, GPs and healthcare professionals in understanding this condition and taking the right steps toward proper assessment and management. Through awareness, education, advocacy, and collaboration, we aim to make TG6 testing and Gluten Ataxia screening a standard part of neurological evaluation - not a rare exception.
No one should suffer symptoms that could be prevented. No one should be dismissed because their doctor hasn’t heard of Gluten Ataxia. And no one should face this condition alone. At TG6, we are here to shine a light on a hidden condition and support people every step of the way.

Gluten Ataxia is one of the most under-recognised neurological conditions.

The symptoms are numerous and can vary for different people.

You need to ask your GP or Neurologist to request a TG6 blood test.
